Why Most Marketers Fail at Social Networking

I think I know the biggest reason most Internet Marketers fail on social networking. They focus too much on the social aspect of sharing, and not enough on the networking.

In this new web 2.0 frontier, you would think it would be obvious, but some people just don’t get it. Blogging on an empty website with zero visitors & posting updates to Facebook and twitter with no friends or followers is a poor use of resources.

As it relates to social networking, forget adding people indiscriminately and out of the blue, you are unlikely to score new customers this way. Instead, use the sites to connect with other webmasters that will put you in front of hundreds, if not thousands of targeted prospects. I wouldn’t waste 5 minutes posting updates to Facebook for most of my online efforts. Why? Nobody cares, they are too busy chatting with their friends and posting about what they ate for lunch.
