Keys to Online Sales Success

Here are 7 keys to online success I have found to be true through real world application.

Explore niches which interest you.

Internet marketing requires dedication and knowledge, but more than that, it requires the ability to write. If you are highly interested in your topic, writing about it should be easy. If you are uninterested, writing about your topic will evolve into a real burden.

Think of the user

Don’t just copy and paste a bunch of crappy articles, slap up a few Adsense ads and expect your site to grow. Give people a reason to come to your site, and to talk about it. As social networking becomes even more popular, going to where the users are and giving them what they want can be a recipe for generating word of mouth referrals & organic website growth.

Don’t target niches that you will impossible to rank in the top 10 (i.e. mortgages, loans, viagra).

Research the top results in google for your niche to determine if you have a reasonable chance to get into the top 10.Can you make a site that will be better than at least 5 of the top ten results? – and when I say better, I mean from the end user standpoint. Design is important, but content is still king.

Do keyword-research to determine if the niche receives enough traffic to be profitable.

This is perhaps one the single largest factor as to whether you will be successful. If your topic is too narrow, the number of people looking for information will be too small to sustain a regular flow of traffic. Focus on topics that have a good number of different keyword opportunities and a high number of monthly searches.

90/10 Rule

The 90/10 rule is the idea that you should spend 90% of your efforts on marketing and 10% on technology. If you need help with a website, make sure to pick a good website developer or consider designing your site in WordPress yourself, and then dedicate yourself entirely to marketing.

Measure Results

There are tens to potentially hundreds of ways to track your results. At the very least, get some sort of traffic software and hook up google analytics. If you are using email marketing, you can easily track open rates, bounce rates, click-thru, and more.

Network

There is a reason it is called internet marketing. In other words, talk to people! Form partnerships and find people that can make you money. Look for affiliate products that complement what your site has to offer. Build a massive mailing list, and it becomes easy to work with other people to your mutual benefit.
